Mr. Smith
About Mr. Smith:
Hello and welcome to my class web page. I have been an educator for 12 years. My journey started off in Oregon at Eagle Point High School for my first two years as a teacher where I taught History, video production, radio production, creative writing, and coached football, and baseball. I was also a Skills USA advisor where my students won state in both video production and radio production and went on to nationals where they placed in the top ten the first year and second place in the second year of competition. I moved up to Woodburn Oregon where I taught English Language Arts in a trilingual program coordinating with both Spanish and Russian language arts classes. I became a successful grant writer and won a title II D ARRA grant that provided a one-to-one environment for technology in the ELA classrooms. The data I collected from that grant enabled me to write a technology integration book for teachers which was later published and was being used in several college campuses across the country to help teachers with technology integration in the classroom. I coached football, wrestling, basketball, and baseball while at Woodburn Publich Schools for eight years. My next journey landed me way up in the desolate territory of Alaska where I taught Yupik and Inuit Native Americans on St. Lawrence Island in the Bering Straight School District. Teaching in the bush as they call it was challenging because half the year it was completely dark out 24 hours a day and the other half the year it was light out 24 hours a day. The temperatures reached negative 65 degrees in the winter time with wind gusts of 50 mph. I was a nice experience but I ended up moving back to Oklahoma after my contract ended. All roads lead to home. I taught 7-12 grade English for a year at Grandfield High School and coached 8 man football, girls basketball, and baseball. We went undefeated that year in football and reached to finals where we played Shattuck and lost by one point in the final minutes of the game. I look forward to bring that intensity to Wellston Tiger Sports. EDUCATION:
